The far-right leader's trip comes a day after Hamas sent a message to Israel warning that it could “blow up the situation.”

World powers united in condemning Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s visit to the Temple Mount on Tuesday morning, warning it would escalate the already tense situation between Israel and Palestinians.

Ben-Gvir visited the Temple Mount, also known as Haram al-Sharif to Muslims, heavily surrounded by Israeli security forces and despite threats from Hamas on Tuesday that it would “blow up” the situation.

(January 4, 2023 / JNS) Israel’s new government is committed to strengthening the Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria and is therefore contesting a Supreme Court order to evacuate Homesh, Finance Minister and Minister within the Defense Ministry Bezalel Smotrich told JNS.

“The government is changing directions and supports the yeshivah in Homesh. As we promised, we will do everything in order for the communities in Judea and Samaria to grow and flourish,” he said.

The manager of an Old City hotel whose lease has been bought by a right-wing Jewish organization wants US President Joe Biden to give church leaders “just ten minutes” when he visits Israel next month to hear their concerns and reassure them that Christianity will be safe in Jerusalem.

Abu el-Walid Dajani, 78, runs the 44-room Imperial Hotel, built just inside the Jaffa Gate in time to accommodate officers of Germany’s Kaiser Wilhelm, who paid a state visit to the city in 1898.

(December 27, 2022 / JNS) Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu said last week that he hopes to bring about “a full, formal peace” with Saudi Arabia, as Israel has done with other Gulf states. However, analysts told JNS that there are several significant obstacles to achieving full normalization with the Saudis.

According to Eytan Gilboa, professor of political science at Bar-Ilan University and senior fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security (JISS), the chances of peace between Jerusalem and Riyadh are “low.”

(December 27, 2022 / JNS) An ancient Jerusalem pool that was used by millions of Jewish pilgrims during the time of the Second Temple two millennia ago as a ritual bath before ascending the Temple Mount, and revered by Christians as the site where Jesus cured a blind man, will be fully excavated and then opened to the public, the Israel Antiquities Authority announced on Tuesday.

The Pool of Siloam, located in the southern portion of the City of David, the ancient epicenter of Jerusalem, and just outside the Old City walls is expected to become one of the most important historic and tourist sites in the city.

The EROS-C3 satellite was successfully launched from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA on December 30, Israel Aerospace Industries announced.

“Today’s launch of the EROS-C3 satellite is a further expression of the advanced technological capabilities of Israel Aerospace Industries, the space house of the State of Israel," IAI President and CEO Boaz Levy said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private apartment on Azza Street in Jerusalem has become the official residence of the prime minister as renovations continue at the Balfour Street residence that served him in the past, less than one kilometer away.

Netanyahu’s private residence is at 35 Azza St., and while the building is well known and can be photographed, it is blurred on Google Maps.
