In a discovery perfectly timed for Hanukkah, archaeologists and other scientists at the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) and Tel-Aviv University (TAU) have uncovered 16 of the oldest ceramic roofing tiles in the Land of Israel that provide a tangible connection with the story of the Festival of Lights. The findings were dated to the time of the Greek Seleucid King Antiochus IV.

Why this Jew is binge-watching The Chosen (and maybe you should too)

The TV drama all the Christians were talking about presents the most intensely Jewish Jesus and Gospels we've ever had.

Jesus in the synagogue

I mentally cringed when I first heard about The Chosen. Another Christian evangelistic tool that ends up making the Jews out to be the bad guys, the dramatic foil for some new message, the ones responsible, the persecutors. Another Jewish-Christian relations disaster? No thanks. Plus it all sounded a little, well…cheesy.

All the Christians were talking about it on Facebook, and that of course couldn’t be a good sign. I started getting private messages – including from people whose opinion I respect – encouraging me as a teacher and scholar of Jewish-Christian relations, to watch it. No way.

COMPLETELY INTACT OIL LAMP FROM HASMONEAN ERA UNCOVERED ON PILGRIMAGE ROAD

The Land of Israel has many layers of history. Each and every day, more and more layers are being unearthed in many places across the Land of Israel. But, the heart and soul of the unearthing activities is the area that has become known as the City of David. This is indeed exactly where King David set up his kingdom in Jerusalem. Saul was the first King before King David, but was not based in Jerusalem. King David purchased the Land from the Yebusites and began the preparation for the building of the Temple, right where these archaeological finds are being unearthed.

The areas that are being dug up today are not within the confines of the Old City Walls of Jerusalem. The Old City Walls are not that old – in Jerusalem terms. They are “only” around 500 years old. Suleiman the Great, the King of Turkey built them. But, there are many old ancient walls of Jerusalem that are located beneath layers

Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody and Hanukkah just came together for this tribute

Six13 have done it once again, bringing the Hanukkah light to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. When a band can take an absolute classic and turn it into something this good you know it’s worth watching!

Today we are celebrating the 1st day of Hanukkah. The Jewish festival that celebrates the wonderous victory of the Maccabeats over the Greeks and the restoration of the holy of Temple. There were many miracles that happened during the time of Hanukkah but let’s focus on one.
