Jared Kushner, the son-in-law and senior advisor to former US president Donald Trump, reveals in an upcoming book that when Trump decided to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the US embassy there in 2017, then-prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reaction was decidedly tepid.

The book, “Breaking History: A White House Memoir,” is set to be published on August 23 but was posted on a Saudi website earlier this week and reveals Netanyahu’s cool response almost sabotaged the plan.

Do Palestinians prefer united Jerusalem under Israeli rule? - opinion

There is much debate over the existence and route of the Jerusalem Day flag march which is planned to go through Damascus Gate.

The fault lines over this Sunday’s Jerusalem Day celebrations are often depicted in simplistic terms: Thousands of kippa-clad Israelis take part in the annual parade to mark the anniversary of the reunification of the city in the Six Day War of June 1967, while keffiyeh-sporting Palestinians demonstrate their opposition to Israeli rule over al-Quds. But the realities are far more nuanced.

Palestinian consulate pressure, differences on Iran loom over Bennett-Biden meeting

While White House officials may understand that advancing the peace process now would be counterproductive, Dore Gold noted that “there is always a cottage industry of so-called experts who have proposals they want their bosses to advance when an Israeli prime minister comes to town.”

The two will exchange pleasantries and then they will get right down to business. One major issue the two leaders will discuss is, not surprisingly, Iran. Another major issue is the establishment of a Palestinian consulate in Jerusalem. And therein lies the problem.

When Bill Clinton was elected president in 1992, his familiarity with the African American community prompted some to fondly call him the “first Black president.”

According to that logic, Joe Biden can surely be considered America’s “first Jewish president.” U.S. presidents have long had close personal ties to Jews, from Harry Truman’s haberdashery partner all the way to the sons-in-law of Clinton and Donald
