Druze leader Sheikh Muwafaq Tarif said on Thursday that Israeli Druze are distrustful of interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

"It was a mistake to lift the sanctions; he hasn’t changed his stripes," Tarif noted.

In light of the ceasefire achieved last night between the Druze and the new regime in Syria, Tarif spoke with Nissim Mashal and Geula Even-Saar on 103FM.

In the West Bank, settler harassment swiftly uproots a Bedouin hamlet

Entire community of Maghar al-Deir flees within days after Israelis set up shepherding outpost 100 meters from homes and begin intimidating residents, amid ongoing campaign.

One Sunday earlier this month, settlers began showing up at Ahmad Malihaat’s village. Four days later, Malihaat and the rest of the small hamlet of Maghar al-Deir were gone.

Video from the day the settlers arrived, May 18, shows a group of young men sporting the long hair and sidelocks typical of extremist settler youth drilling a post hole into the rocky earth near the village, situated a few kilometers east of Ramallah.

NGO Monitor finds over 300 flaws with Human Rights Watch report on Israel’s ‘apartheid’

Key errors in the HRW report include false claims that Arabs in Israel are “hemmed in” with “density problems.”

(December 5, 2022 / JNS) NGO Monitor has published a scathing analysis of an April 2021 report by Human Rights Watch (HRW) that accused Israel of committing “apartheid.” NGO Monitor analyzed the 217-page report along with its 867 footnotes.

HRW conducted almost no primary research, NGO Monitor found. Instead, HRW cited itself approximately 175 times, or in 20% of the document’s footnotes. HRW also cited B’Tselem approximately 70 times, and 20-40 times for Peace Now, Adalah, Gisha, HaMoked and Ir Amim, which are “all politicized NGOs active in the anti-Israel ‘apartheid’ campaign,” according to NGO Monitor.

New Negev Desert communities aim to strengthen Jewish life in Israel’s south

“In my eyes, this is the most important thing this government has done up until now,” said Yishai Merling, head of the Settlement Division of the World Zionist Organization.

(April 19, 2022 / JNS) Israel’s government has approved 13 new communities in the southern Negev region, where the spread of unregulated Bedouin encampments has grown to such dimensions that some Israelis call it a national security threat. The government hopes that the new towns, approved over the last few months, will check illegal Bedouin squatting and strengthen Israeli sovereignty in the region.

Israel's Bedouin: What is the truth behind the crime-ridden headlines?

There are thousands of Bedouin living in the Negev; their story must extend deeper than crime-ridden headlines. So, who are the Bedouin of the South?

“Nineteen arrested in large brawl at Soroka hospital in Beersheba,” a headline read in November. A fight broke out between two Bedouin families from Rahat, about 20 km. north of Beersheba. The reason it made the news was the location – brawls happen all the time.

Jordan Is Palestinian

Thus far the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has weathered the storm that has swept across the Middle East since the beginning of the year. But the relative calm in Amman is an illusion.

The unspoken truth is that the Palestinians, the country's largest ethnic group, have developed a profound hatred of the regime and view the Hashemites as occupiers of eastern Palestine—intruders rather than legitimate rulers. This, in turn, makes a regime change in Jordan more likely than ever. Such a change, however, would not only be confined to the toppling of yet another Arab despot but would also open the door to the only viable peace solution—and one that has effectively existed for quite some time: a Palestinian state in Jordan.

The majority Palestinian population of Jordan bridles at the advantages and benefits bestowed on the minority Bedouins. Advancement in the civil service, as well as in the military, is almost entirely a Bedouin prerogative with the added insult that Palestinians pay the lion's share of the country's taxes.

Jordan considered downgrading its diplomatic ties with Israel in the wake of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s public promise during the run-up to last month’s Knesset election to annex the Jordan Valley, backing down only after King Abdullah II concluded the declaration was most likely a pre-election stunt, according to a television report on Saturday.

Salt study unravels ancient mystery around well-preserved Dead Sea Scroll

Researchers say the Temple Scroll, which has survived in better condition than other texts, was modified using previously unknown technology with minerals not local to the region.

Among the thousands pieces of parchment found in caves above the Dead Sea, the one known as the Temple Scroll has stood out for its shape, color and fairly unblemished text compared to the rest of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Jordan walks a fine line between the Bedouin and the Palestinians

The “Arab Spring” largely passed Jordan by, in part because the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood supported King Abdullah, who now has to juggle the contradictory demands of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Bedouin and the country’s Palestinian majority.

BY DANIEL SIRYOTI
(March 13, 2019 / Israel Hayom) The events of the “Arab Spring,” which have kept the Middle East off-kilter for nearly 10 years now, skipped over the kingdom of Jordan. The citizens of the Hashemite kingdom, unlike their neighbors in Syria and Iraq, were not forced to deal with bloody civil wars, unchecked immigration by Islamist terrorist operatives and the absence of a centralized, stable government.
