Archaeologists find ancient mosque in Israel

Archaeologists from the Israel Antiques Authority (IAA) have discovered an ancient mosque in the Negev desert near the city of Rahat in the Southern District of Israel.

Excavations were part of a state-funded project through the Negev Bedouin Development and Settlement Authority, which is building a new neighbourhood in the Bedouin city.

The site dates from 1200-years-ago and represents one of the earliest mosques in the region, a period when a transition was made from Christian to Muslim rule. The mosque contains a square room and a wall facing towards the direction of Mecca, with a half-circle niche that points south.

New Negev Desert communities aim to strengthen Jewish life in Israel’s south

“In my eyes, this is the most important thing this government has done up until now,” said Yishai Merling, head of the Settlement Division of the World Zionist Organization.

(April 19, 2022 / JNS) Israel’s government has approved 13 new communities in the southern Negev region, where the spread of unregulated Bedouin encampments has grown to such dimensions that some Israelis call it a national security threat. The government hopes that the new towns, approved over the last few months, will check illegal Bedouin squatting and strengthen Israeli sovereignty in the region.

Iran is beginning to understand the Abraham Accords - analysis

Iran was surprised to see the recent Negev Summit where Israel hosted the foreign ministers of the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Egypt. It is now examining how strong this new alliance might be.

Iran was surprised to see the recent Negev Summit where Israel hosted the foreign ministers of the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Egypt. While Tehran has been shouting about the Abraham Accords since the beginning, accusing Arab states of betraying the Palestinian cause and threatening them against working with Israel, it appears that the Islamic Republic now understands that this new era of peaceful diplomacy is actually happening and it can’t prevent it.

The Negev two-state summit

To block criticism of the new Iran nuclear deal, Blinken’s aim at the summit was to neutralize the Israeli-Arab anti-Iran strategic alliance. And he used the two-state solution to achieve this goal.

(April 3, 2022 / JNS) The “two-state solution” has made a comeback. That’s the main take-home lesson from the Negev Summit last week. The final remarks of the four Arab foreign ministers, and U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s remarks at the summit and throughout his visit, make this glaringly obvious. All of Israel’s guests demanded that it be advanced.

The so-called two-state solution has a hundred-year history of uninterrupted failure. In 1920, the League of Nations gave Britain the mandate for Palestine, which they

For Israel, the Negev Summit was all about Iran. For other participants, not so much

Foreign diplomats involved say Tehran wasn’t what brought them to Sde Boker, as each country has its own concerns that justify participation in first-of-its-kind gathering.

Like it did with the recent trilateral meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh between the leaders of Israel, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, Jerusalem sought to frame this week’s expanded forum in Sde Boker as the establishment of a regional front against Iran.

Israel's Bedouin: What is the truth behind the crime-ridden headlines?

There are thousands of Bedouin living in the Negev; their story must extend deeper than crime-ridden headlines. So, who are the Bedouin of the South?

“Nineteen arrested in large brawl at Soroka hospital in Beersheba,” a headline read in November. A fight broke out between two Bedouin families from Rahat, about 20 km. north of Beersheba. The reason it made the news was the location – brawls happen all the time.
