Yesterday, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich (Religious Zionist Party) took the floor at the Knesset in a rare display of raw emotion. As he began speaking about the toll borne by the religious-Zionist community in the IDF, the weight of his words caught up to him.

His voice broke, and he fought back tears as he acknowledged the disproportionate sacrifices made by religious-Zionist families, many of whom have lost fathers, sons, and brothers on the battlefield. For a man known for his unwavering rhetoric, the tears spoke louder than his words –

Is the real Mount Sinai in Saudi Arabia instead of Egypt?

There is virtually no evidence of human activity in the supposed Mount Sinai in Egypt. Is the real location for where God gave the Jews the Ten Commandments in Saudi Arabia?

“It just doesn’t fit,” I told my son in 2007. At the time, he was a student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. During a break in his classes, we decided to explore a coastal town in the Sinai Peninsula. One night, after a long, cold climb to a somewhat distant mountain peak, we witnessed a beautiful sunrise illuminating the desolate landscape of rock-strewn mountains with the golden hue of morning light.

The Islamic Republic is not only a threat to Israel but to the entire world, and it will continue on its path until it has a bomb in hand or the world finally wakes up and puts a stop to it.

Iran is clearly a nuclear threshold country today, according to a great majority of scientists. What is unclear is exactly when we can expect a fully nuclear Iran.

Israel is filled with archaeological sites from the times of the Bible, many of which are only partly excavated. We can assume that many have not been discovered yet, and others never will be. Nevertheless, the sites we know about still have enough 'unexcavated' material to keep archaeologists busy for another century, at least.

In this series, we will examine some of the most important archaeological sites in Israel and learn a bit about the different discoveries found in these places. We will start with

Two 3,800-year-old Cuneiform Tablets Found in Iraq Give First Glimpse of Hebrew Precursor

The ancient tablets, uncovered 30 years ago during the Gulf War and forgotten until now, offer a first glimpse of the Amorite language that Hebrew developed from.

It’s not every day that Assyriologists have thrilling news to celebrate.

These scholars of the history, archeology and language of ancient Mesopotamia spend most of their time poring over languages like Akkadian, Sumerian, Elamite, Aramaic and Ugaritic, and arduously trying to decipher cuneiform tablets. But this past week was different. “This is something sensational. I’m excited,” says Professor Nathan Wasserman of the Hebrew University Institute of Archaelogy and

Netanyahu’s bloc is made up of his right-wing Likud party, its longtime ultra-Orthodox allies Shas and United Torah Judaism, and the far-right Religious Zionism, Otzma Yehudit and Noam factions.

Almost 30 years ago, Pastor Larry Huch and his wife, Pastor Tiz Huch, considered quitting the ministry they spent many years building.

“I just felt like something was missing,” Larry said. “We had built churches all over the world in countries like Australia and America.” But then a friend recommended they visit Israel. Little did they know that it would change their life and the lives of millions of Christians around the world.

How Bezalel Smotrich rode unfiltered radicalism and unforgiving politics to power

The Religious Zionism leader’s political ascent has been marked by extreme positions from the start. He now stands on the cusp of having the ability to realize his far-right vision.

A little over a decade ago, as the 2009 election campaign gathered pace, a little-known but radical right-wing activist secured the respectable, albeit unrealistic, ninth spot on the electoral list of the ultra-nationalist and religiously hardline National Union party.

A few days shy of his 29th birthday, Bezalel Smotrich was making his first foray into frontline Israeli politics.

The modern-day city of Harran, with a population of close to 80,000, has existed in the same location in southeastern Turkey at the northern tip of the Fertile Crescent – which stretches from parts of northern Egypt up through the Levant, southern Iraq, Syria and parts of Iraq and Turkey – for some 4,000 years.

According to local folklore, this is the city mentioned in Genesis where Abraham’s father, Terach, decided to settle after originally setting out to lead his large family from the city of Ur to Canaan.
