The government hopes that the new towns, approved over the last few months, will check illegal Bedouin squatting and strengthen Israeli sovereignty in the region.

“The correct phrase is definitively Judea and Samaria,” he told Channel 13, in one of a series of interviews Bennett has given to defend his record and that of his government, amid speculation that the country might be heading to a new election.

Naftali Bennett, the political gambler about to deal Netanyahu out

The man slated to be sworn in Sunday as Israel’s new prime minister is a brazen and – so far – astonishingly successful risk-taker.

If all goes according to plan, by Sunday evening Israel will have a new prime minister: 49-year-old Naftali Bennett.

Bennett is a study in contrasts. Born to American immigrant parents, he doesn’t consider himself part of Israel’s English-speaking community; an ex-commando and West Bank annexationist, he lives in liberal-leaning suburban Ra’anana; a

(JTA) — In the days before Benjamin Netanyahu’s rival lawmakers announced that they had formed a government to replace the longtime prime minister, one fled her home with her partner and baby after receiving what she called “severe threats” against their safety.

The threats to Tamar Zandberg of the left-wing Meretz party included a fake notice of her death that circulated on social media.

Zandberg wasn’t the only Netanyahu opponent to receive death threats. So did

The Strategic Consequences of Bennett’s Megalomania

There is little point at this stage of the game to mention the depths of moral depravity and treachery into which Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked have descended. Now, as the two self-proclaimed “leaders” of the ideological Right defect from the nationalist camp and form a leftist government supported by pro-Hamas Arab parties, the time has come to discuss the strategic and national consequences of their actions.

The place to begin the discussion is by noting that ministers that support the Biden administration’s Middle East policies will hold a majority in the leftist government Bennett and Shaked are now intent on forming.

Negotiators from the Yesh Atid, Yamina and New Hope parties held marathon day-long talks on Thursday at the Knesset in a bid to narrow the gaps that remain to forming a broad-based unity government that would see Israel’s longest-serving premier, Benjamin Netanyahu, pushed out of office.

Disagreements surfaced over ministries and negotiating schedules as the sides sought to build the trust required to hold together a coalition straddling the fault
