Netanyahu reconoce por primera vez el Genocidio Armenio


Por primera vez, el primer ministro Benjamín Netanyahu reconoció públicamente este martes el Genocidio Armenio.

Netanyahu hizo estos comentarios en una entrevista en el podcast PBD, presentado por Patrick Bet-David.

Bet-David inició el debate contrastando el reconocimiento casi universal del Holocausto con la falta de un reconocimiento más amplio de los genocidios armenio y asirio.

“Para cualquiera que no reconozca el genocidio armenio–asirio, si hubiera un país que yo hubiera esperado que estuviera en la lista de países que reconocieran el genocidio armenio, asirio y griego, ese sería Israel“, dijo Bet–David.

El milagroso rescate de los judíos del Yemen


No es muy conocido el dramático éxodo de los casi 49,000 judíos que vivían en Yemen.

Se dice que los primeros judíos que habían llegado al Yemen fueron enviados como comerciantes por el Rey Salomón. De esa manera, los judíos vivieron en el Yemen durante muchos siglos.

En ese país, embestido por la pobreza, los judíos eran los ciudadanos más pobres y desamparados, viviendo con sufrimiento y víctimas de desprecio y persecución.

Sin embargo, en sus sinagogas y escuelas, enseñaron a sus hijos a leer y escribir en hebreo.

Holocaust survivor publishes PhD dissertation on ‘serendipity’ of Balfour

Paul Goldstein, whose studies were interrupted in WWII, became one of the oldest doctoral recipients in the world when he graduated last year from Israel’s Ariel University.

Paul Goldstein is not the oldest person to receive a PhD, but he comes pretty close. In September 2020, Goldstein earned a doctorate in political science from Israel’s Ariel University at age 87.

In September 2021, Goldstein’s dissertation on the Balfour Declaration was published as a book by Cambridge Scholars Publishing, another achievement he could not have foreseen earlier in his life.

On This Day: Ottomans surrender Jerusalem in World War I

The British would continue to hold onto the city until fully withdrawing from Mandatory Palestine in 1948.

December 9 marks 104 years since the Ottoman surrender at the Battle of Jerusalem, winning major morale and strategic victory in a key city in this important World War I battle.

The battle itself was the culmination of a long, bloody campaign in the Middle East by the British against the Turks, something that had been up to a rough start for a while.

En 1904, Theodor Herzl, el hombre que había luchado por el retorno del pueblo judío a su tierra ancestral, murió repentinamente a los 44 años de edad, sin embargo, la causa sionista se mantuvo viva. Llegaron las primeras inmigraciones judías a aquella región, que dentro el Imperio Otomano, era llamada Palestina.

Los judíos comenzaron a trabajar en comunidades agrícolas llamadas kibutzim, la tierra era árida, pero después de un monstruoso esfuerzo, hicieron florecer el desierto, y al secar los pantanos, eliminaron la plaga de la malaria llevando a la región un gran progreso.

De pronto estalló una gran guerra, la Primera Guerra Mundial, y el Imperio Otomano, en donde Palestina se encontraba, se comenzó a desmoronar.

¿Por qué es crucial educar sobre los derechos de Israel a la tierra? –

La Declaración Balfour del 2 de noviembre de 1917, seguida de la Conferencia de San Remo en 1920, puso en marcha el desarrollo del moderno Estado judío de Israel.


Ha llegado el momento – de hecho, hace mucho tiempo – de educar a los estudiantes en edad de la escuela secundaria y universitaria, comenzando en Israel, y eventualmente a los jóvenes judíos y no judíos, y al público en general, sobre los derechos legales de Israel. ¿Cuántas veces se les ha dicho a nuestros estudiantes de secundaria y universitarios judíos que el sionismo es colonialismo y que los judíos son opresores blancos que limpiaron étnicamente Palestina de musulmanes? Demasiadas veces.

Biden irrita a Turquía al reconocer el genocidio armenio

El presidente estadounidense, Joe Biden, se convirtió este sábado en el primer mandatario en ejercicio e Estados Unidos que describe como "genocidio" la matanza de 1,5 millones de armenios por el Imperio Otomano a partir de 1915, una decisión que generó un fuerte rechazo de Turquía.

El anuncio de Biden promete debilitar la relación de Estados Unidos con Turquía, uno de sus aliados más importantes en la OTAN y un socio estratégico esencial para impulsar las prioridades de Washington en Oriente Medio.

1919. Pogrom En Buenos Aires. La Semana Trágica


Cuando uno lee o escucha la palabra Pogrom seguramente le vienen a la mente las matanzas que sufrieron los judíos a través de la historia. La palabra Pogrom o Pogromo es una palabra que tiene origen ruso y que podría traducirse con atacar violentamente, demoler, causar estragos a cualquier grupo étnico, religioso o de otro tipo pero por sobre todo a poblaciones judías por parte de poblaciones no judías. Esta palabra se relaciona como bien establece el “United States Holocaust Memorial Museum” (Museo de la Memoria del Holocausto de Estados Unidos), básicamente con las matanzas sufridas por los judíos en el Imperio Ruso y en otros países. Si bien la historia registra con esa palabra el primer POGROM en el año 1821 en Odesa, la realidad es que ya habían ocurrido disturbios y matanzas antisemitas en el sur de Rusia y Ucrania entre 1881 y 1884. A Palestinian court has ruled that the British Government’s Balfour Declaration of 1917 is invalid, calling on London to issue an apology to Palestinians.

The ruling, which was delivered in the Court of First Instance in the West Bank city of Nablus on Sunday, also held Britain legally responsible for the consequences of Lord Balfour’s statement that Britain supported “a national home for the Jewish people”.

Britain’s prime minister during the First World War gave secret testimony to the 1937 Palestine Royal Commission that Jews were “a dangerous people to quarrel with” but “a very helpful people if you get them on your side”.

David Lloyd George, who signed off on the 1917 Balfour Declaration giving Jews a national homeland in Palestine, gave evidence in secret to the Commission chaired by Lord William Peel, with his testimony only recently declassified.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: There is probably no more understated event in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict than the San Remo Conference of April 1920. Convened for a mere week as part of the post-WWI peace conferences that created a new international order on the basis of indigenous self-rule and national self-determination, the San Remo conference appointed Britain as mandatory for Palestine with the specific task of “putting into effect the declaration originally made on November 2, 1917, by the British Government [i.e., the Balfour Declaration], and adopted by the other Allied Powers, in favour of the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.” This mandate was then ratified on July 24, 1922 by the Council of the League of Nations—the postwar world organization and the UN’s predecessor.

El parlamento sirio reconoce el genocidio armenio

El reconocimiento llega en un contexto de tensiones entre Turquía y Siria.

Diario Judío México - El parlamento sirio reconoció oficialmente el jueves como “genocidio” la muerte de 1,5 millones de armenios entre 1915 y 1917 en el marco de grandes tensiones con Turquía tras enfrentamientos en el noroeste de Siria.

EL PARLAMENTO (…) CONDENÓ Y RECONOCIÓ EL GENOCIDIO COMETIDO CONTRA LOS ARMENIOS Y POR EL ESTADO OTOMANO A PRINCIPIOS DEL SIGLO XX”, INDICÓ EL PARLAMENTO SIRIO EN UN COMUNICADO.

El reconocimiento llega en un contexto de tensiones entre Turquía y Siria.

El miércoles el presidente turco Recep Tayyip Erdogan amenazó con atacar “en todas partes” al régimen sirio en caso de nuevo ataque contras las fuerzas turcas.

Desde principios de febrero, 14 soldados turcos murieron y 45 resultaron heridos en ataques del régimen en la región de Idlib, el último bastión en Siria controlado en parte yihadistas y rebeldes.

Según las estimaciones, entre 1,2 millones y 1,5 millones de armenios murieron durante la Primera Guerra Mundial a manos del imperio otomano, aliado entonces a Alemania y del imperio austrohúngaro.
