SCOOP: ‘Read history books,’ UN adviser Albanese told after claiming Jews only well-treated in Arab lands post-Inquisition

“There’s the great myth of peaceful coexistence of Jews in the Arab countries, which is a staple of Palestinian propaganda,” Lyn Julius, cofounder of a group focused on Jews of the Middle East and North Africa, told JNS.

(July 10, 2026 / JNS)  Francesca Albanese, special United Nations rapporteur for the Palestinians who has a long history of making anti-Israel comments, ought to read a book after her claim that Jews have been treated only in exemplary fashion in Arab lands since the Inquisition ended in the 19th century.

“Francesca Albanese can either read history books if she wished to—obviously she doesn’t—or she can meet people like my wife,” David Harris, executive vice chair of the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy, told JNS.

UK urged to join Francesca Albanese resignation call after ‘enemy of humanity’ speech

Foreign Secretary asked to join France, Germany, Italy, Austria and Czechia, who have said the UN Special Rapporteur should go.

The British government is being urged to follow the lead of countries including Italy, Germany and France in calling for the resignation of the UN’s Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, after comments she made at an Al Jazeera forum last week which appeared to refer to Israel as “the common enemy of humanity”.

Rubio imposes sanctions on UN's Albanese over 'political, economic warfare' against Israel, US

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is imposing sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, over her efforts to have the International Criminal Court take action against US and Israeli officials, companies, and executives.

“Albanese’s campaign of political and economic warfare against the United States and Israel will no longer be tolerated,” Rubio said Wednesday in a post on X/Twitter.

Entire UN commission investigating Israel resigns

An entire UN commission investigating Israel, consisting of three members, have announced their resignations.

“I regret to advise that owing to age, medical issues and the weight of several other commitments, I feel compelled to retire as a member of the Commission,” commission chair Navi Pillay wrote in a letter to the President of the UN’s Human Rights Council on July 8. “I hereby submit notice of my resignation with effect on 3 November 2025.”

The other members of the commission, Miloon Kothari and Chris Sodoti, submitted letters of resignation in the subsequent two days.

El secretario de Estado de Estados Unidos, Marco Rubio, impuso este miércoles sanciones a la relatora de la ONU para Palestina, Francesca Albanese, a la que acusa de “antisemitismo descarado” y de llevar a cabo una “campaña” contra Israel.

“La campaña política y económica de Albanese contra Estados Unidos e Israel ya no será tolerada. Siempre apoyaremos a nuestros socios en su derecho a la legítima defensa”, declaró el jefe de la diplomacia estadounidense en su cuenta de la red social X.

UN Human Rights Council slated to renew mandate of antisemitic special adviser

(March 31, 2025 / JNS)  Paul Empole Efambe, the Congolese ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva and a vice president of the U.N. Human Rights Council, gave the floor to Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, during a March 26 council meeting.

“Mr. Chair,” Neuer began, “history will record that on this day we came here to fight for the conscience of the United Nations,” noting that the council was “days away” from renewing Francesca Albanese’s term for another three years as special rapporteur on Palestinian rights.
