DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: Iran likely suffered another failed launch of a satellite-carrying rocket in recent days attempting to reinvigorate a program criticized by the West, even as Tehran faces last-minute negotiations with world powers to save its tattered nuclear deal in Vienna.

United Nations nuclear inspectors have found traces of radioactive material at Iranian nuclear sites that could indicate work on nuclear weapons, according to a report Saturday.

The Wall Street Journal story cited several unnamed diplomats briefed on the matter, who said the locations in which the material was found contributed to suspicions.

Iran’s deputy health minister, Iraj Harirchi, has been infected with the new coronavirus, he said on Tuesday, amid a major outbreak in the Islamic republic.

Harichi said in a video clip he was “formally announcing” that he has the virus, but that he was sure “Iran will overcome” the outbreak.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian officials ratcheted up pressure Wednesday ahead of a weekend nuclear deadline for European nations to come up with a solution for Iran to sell its oil abroad in the aftermath of escalated US sanctions.

President Hassan Rouhani reiterated a threat that Tehran would take additional steps away from the 2015 nuclear accord on Friday and accelerate nuclear activities if Europe fails to provide a solution, calling it Iran’s third, “most important step” away from the deal.

Nuclear deal crumbling: France threatens sanctions as Iran says it will enrich uranium

Iran announced on Wednesday it will keep excess uranium despite warning from France that any pullout from nuclear deal could lead to the reimposing of international sanctions.

Iran’s president said Wednesday that it will begin keeping its excess uranium and heavy water from its nuclear program, setting a 60-day deadline for new terms to its nuclear deal with world powers before it will resume higher uranium enrichment.

This despite France’s warning on Tuesday that even a partial pullout could lead to the reimposing of international sanctions, Reuters reports.
