A Jewish Mayority is Insufficient to Protect Israel

After their claim to be the peace camp exploded into a million pieces in a hundred suicide bombings, Israel’s left reinvented itself as the Zionist camp. Their plan of quitting Judea and Samaria and partitioning Jerusalem remained unchanged. But it was rebranded not as a plan for peace, but as a means to protect Israel’s Jewish identity in the face of the mortal threat of the Palestinian womb.

Within a year or two or a decade or two, the left warned, if Israel maintains its control over its strategic depth, unified capital and historic heartland, the Jews will lose their numeric majority over the Arabs. And at that point, Israel will be faced with the choice of becoming a non-Jewish state or a non-democratic one. By this reasoning, anyone who calls for applying Israeli law over all or parts of Judea and Samaria, and maintaining Jerusalem as an undivided city is an anti-Zionist, or a fascist, or both.

Naftali Bennett, the political gambler about to deal Netanyahu out

The man slated to be sworn in Sunday as Israel’s new prime minister is a brazen and – so far – astonishingly successful risk-taker.

Main image by AP Photo/Matt Rourke: Israel's then-diaspora affairs minister Naftali Bennett speaks to the media near the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Sunday, October 28, 2018.

If all goes according to plan, by Sunday evening Israel will have a new prime minister: 49-year-old Naftali Bennett.

Bennett is a study in contrasts. Born to American immigrant parents, he doesn’t consider himself part of Israel’s English-speaking community; an ex-commando and West Bank annexationist, he lives in liberal-leaning suburban Ra’anana; a

A pair of television polls aired Tuesday evening put Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc of right-wing and religious parties short of a majority, as the Knesset was set to dissolve, triggering the fourth national election in two years.

One of the surveys also had former Likud minister Gideon Sa’ar nipping at Netanyahu’s heels in terms of the candidate best suited to be the prime minister.

Media polls show Yamina to grow; Likud and Blue and White to slip

(August 7, 2020 / JNS) Media polls released on Thursday show that if Israeli elections were held today, Yamina would grow, while the Likud and the Blue and White parties would slip.

Channel 13 News projected that Likud would win 30 seats, followed by Yamina (19), Yesh Atid-Telem (17), the Joint Arab List (16), Blue and White (12), Shas (9), United Torah Judaism (8), Yisrael Beytenu (7), and Meretz with six seats—thereby, the right-wing bloc would secure a 63-seat majority and the

Bennett says he may not recommend Netanyahu for PM after next election

Yamina chairman calls current government ‘one of the worst in the history of the State of Israel,’ but clarifies he’d oppose a new vote so long as pandemic is not under control.

Yamina chairman Naftali Bennett asserted on Monday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should “absolutely not” assume that his right-wing, nationalist slate will recommend that the Likud leader continue serving as premier if new elections were called.

“Netanyahu cannot be certain that we will recommend him,” he said during an interview on Channel 13.

The remark appeared to represent a shift in strategy from the

A coalition agreement between the Likud and Blue and White parties will be finalized no later than Friday afternoon, sources from both parties said Thursday evening.

A deal must be reached by Friday to enable parties in the coalition to bring the agreement to their institutions on Sunday and allow a vote in the Knesset to approve the government on Monday. The Knesset does not meet during Passover, which begins on Wednesday evening and lasts for a week. Blue and White leader Benny Gantz’s mandate to form a government, and the leverage that comes with it, ends during the holiday.

Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz is set to partner Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a unity government, serving initially as foreign minister but then taking over from Netanyahu as prime minister in September 2021, according to a reported deal taking shape amid immense political drama in Israel on Thursday afternoon.

Gantz’s decision to join forces with Netanyahu immediately led to the collapse of Blue and White, with the party’s No. 2 Yair Lapid rejecting the move and apparently heading into opposition with others from his Yesh Atid component of Blue and White. “Gantz chose Netanyahu over Lapid,” Channel 12 reported succinctly.
