The fantasy state of ‘Palestine’

It’s time for the United States and the Jewish world to start holding their supposed champions’ feet to the fire.

(Sept. 25, 2025 / JNS)  In his barnstorming speech this week at the United Nations General Assembly, in which he lobbed one uncomfortable home truth after another at member states, U.S. President Donald Trump told the world body itself that it was useless. Instead of stopping wars and saving lives, he said, it produced only empty words.

The problem with the United Nations is rather more acute than that. Supposedly the guardian of peace and justice in the world, it has become instead an avatar of evil.

Hamas says Trump’s Gaza Plan ‘leans toward Israel’ but vows to ‘examine’ it amid global praise for peace proposal

Palestinian Authority cautiously welcomes plan but reiterates its claim to Gaza.

After U.S. President Donald Trump and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented a plan to end the Gaza War on Monday evening, spokesmen for the terror organization Hamas said they hadn’t received the proposal yet.

Senior Hamas official Muhammad Mardawi told the Qatari Al Jazeera channel that the peace plan is biased toward Israel while stressing that no Palestinian group has received the plan in a written form.

(Sept. 21, 2025 / JNS)  A high-level summit in support of a Palestinian state is expected to grab headlines at the United Nations on Monday, a day ahead of the start of the annual U.N. General Assembly debate week.

While at least seven countries are reportedly planning to officially declare recognition of Palestinian statehood for the first time, the conference may be just as notable for those who will not be there.

OPINION: Palestinian statehood recognition now betrays Labour’s better traditions

Labour has two paths to choose from: the failed legacies of Bevin and Corbyn, or successful ones like Blair's Northern Ireland Peace Agreement.

Then prime minister Tony Blair (right) with then Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon, outside Downing Street.

The Labour Party has a complex history with Israel. The post-war Labour government neither intended to recognise the Jewish state nor support its UN membership, abstaining from the UN Partition vote in 1947. Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin told his US counterpart that Britain was “unanimous” in opposing a Jewish state, calling the Balfour Declaration an “unfortunate error.”

VOICE OF THE JN: State of delusion – performative gestures won’t bring about peace

The sad fact is that the UK’s ultimatum of recognising Palestine in September only shows the severe decline in our country’s influence on the world stage.

Last week, Keir Starmer insisted that he was “unequivocal” about the need for a Palestinian state, but stressed that it needed to be part of a “wider plan which ultimately results in a two-state solution and lasting security for Palestinians and Israelis”.

Just 72 hours later, a release out from Tuesday’s cabinet meeting attributed the following sentiment to the Prime Minister: “Because of the increasingly intolerable situation in Gaza and the diminishing prospect of a peace process towards a two state solution, now was the right time to move this position forward.”

Irving Gatell/ De cómo Inglaterra, Francia y Canadá fastidiaron a Hamás

UK funding to UNRWA under review after ‘concerning’ claims by Emily Damari

Downing St says the government will looking at outcome of an investigation into claims made by Emily Damari that she was held captive in UNRWA facilities.

Keir Starmer meets Mandy Damari at LFI reception

The UK is to review its funding to UNRWA following claims made by freed hostage Emily Damari that she was held by Hamas terrorists at sites belonging to the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees.

Downing Street confirmed that funding to the Palestinian relief agency would be amongst those commitments reviewed against UK taxpayer priorities.

A spokesperson for Keir Starmer said the government would be looking closely at the findings of an UNRWA investigation into “concerning” claims made by Damari that Palestinian armed groups, including Hamas, were misusing their facilities.

According to an official Israeli report of the talks the UK Prime Minister told his Israeli counterpart an “evaluation” of the matter is now being carried out.
