Another UN resolution, another exercise in futility

From 1947 to today, every chance for Palestinian statehood has been rejected. No declaration in New York will change that reality.

(Sept. 16, 2025 / JNS)  The U.N. General Assembly has once again stepped onto the stage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with grand declarations and high-minded pronouncements. Just last week, it voted to endorse a seven-page declaration that outlines “tangible, timebound and irreversible steps” toward a two-state solution.

The resolution was backed by Gulf Arab states and European powers, boycotted by the United States and Israel, and condemned by Jerusalem as a “publicity stunt.”

And a stunt it is.

Amos Schocken’s lies, Bill Clinton’s truths

The "Haaretz" publisher calls Palestinian terrorists “freedom fighters,” while the former U.S. president highlights their history of rejectionism.

(Nov. 3, 2024 / JNS)  Two speeches last week are worthy of note for the widespread surprise they elicited, causing each to go viral within minutes.

The first was delivered last Sunday by the publisher of the Haaretz newspaper, Israel’s equivalent to The New York Times in terms of its increasingly radical content—no longer even disguised as journalistically objective—and shrinking, self-anointed elitist readership.

No aceptamos.

Will Yoav Gallant's second coming herald an Israel attack on Iran? - analysis

Will this be Yoav Gallant and Benjamin Netanyahu's best chance to redo their missed opportunity in 2010 and attack Iran?

That Likud MK Yoav Gallant will be the next defense minister is not really news, seeing as it was leaked weeks ago. What could be news is whether Gallant entering the defense minister’s chair with a set of 12-year-old demons to exorcise could finally lead to the climactic war with Iran that many have predicted for a long time.

What demons of the past might Gallant be contending with, and why might the decision of incoming prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to appoint him as the new defense minister usher in an era of escalation against the Islamic Republic?

Do Palestinians prefer united Jerusalem under Israeli rule? - opinion

There is much debate over the existence and route of the Jerusalem Day flag march which is planned to go through Damascus Gate.

The fault lines over this Sunday’s Jerusalem Day celebrations are often depicted in simplistic terms: Thousands of kippa-clad Israelis take part in the annual parade to mark the anniversary of the reunification of the city in the Six Day War of June 1967, while keffiyeh-sporting Palestinians demonstrate their opposition to Israeli rule over al-Quds. But the realities are far more nuanced.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: In order to meet the external and domestic security challenges confronting it, Israel must promptly take two main steps: substantial expansion of the IDF’s order of battle (by increasing its fighting units and creating a sizeable internal-security force), and reconstitution of its long-neglected territorial defense system.

Room where it didn’t happen: US mediators reveal failed Israel-PLO peace talks

In ‘The Human Factor,’ key American negotiators answer Israeli director Dror Moreh’s pointed questions about how a peace plan spanning two administrations crashed and burned.

Why, after more than a century of bloody conflict, have Israelis and Palestinians failed to reach a peace agreement? Israeli director Dror Moreh goes behind closed doors of the sincere, though largely failed efforts spearheaded by the United States by interviewing a handful of the American negotiators in his new documentary, “The Human Factor,” opening January 22 in the US.

This past November marked the 25th anniversary of the assassination of Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin by right-wing Jewish extremist Yigal Amir. Moreh sees this as a fitting time to reflect on the derailment of the peace process Rabin worked

Barak: Goal of first Lebanon War was to turn Jordan to Palestinian State

The former prime minister told Maariv that the late Ariel Sharon was very clear when he told ministers Israel’s end goal was to drive PLO into Jordan but they “didn’t understand or pretend not to."

The goal of the First Lebanon War was to drive the PLO out of Lebanon and into Jordan, former prime minister Ehud Barak said in an interview with Maariv, the sister publication of the Jerusalem Post.

The Israeli hope was that the PLO would have “learned the lessons of Black September (1970)”, when it clashed with Jordanian forces and was forced to leave Jordan – turning the country into the de facto Palestinian state, he said.
