Igeret Orchot Olam, written by Rabbi Abraham ben Mordechai Farissol and published in 1586 in Venice, contains one of the earliest known descriptions of America and the sub-Saharan continent.

It also has hand-written comments from a renowned 17th century Rabbi.

I sensed that Palestinian businessman and politician Mohammad Shtayyeh would be an obstacle to peace when I first met him in 2013. He came to brief a Jewish leadership delegation at the American Colony Hotel in Jerusalem, and swiftly let loose a barrage of accusations against Israel.

He lost my sympathies with a harangue about “settler swimming pools” in Judea and Samaria that “were stealing the Palestinian Authority’s water.”

(April 19, 2022 / JNS) Israel’s government has approved 13 new communities in the southern Negev region, where the spread of unregulated Bedouin encampments has grown to such dimensions that some Israelis call it a national security threat. The government hopes that the new towns, approved over the last few months, will check illegal Bedouin squatting and strengthen Israeli sovereignty in the region.

Arqueólogos encontraron colgantes que pertenecieron a personas judías en el campo de exterminio nazi de Sobibor. Los investigadores descubrieron tres accesorios con distintas representaciones de la religión judía.

Los colgantes se encontraron en áreas donde las víctimas fueron obligadas a desvestirse antes ser conducidos a las cámaras de gas. La ubicación de los mismos era también cercana a una de las fosas comunes.

The modern-day city of Harran, with a population of close to 80,000, has existed in the same location in southeastern Turkey at the northern tip of the Fertile Crescent – which stretches from parts of northern Egypt up through the Levant, southern Iraq, Syria and parts of Iraq and Turkey – for some 4,000 years.

According to local folklore, this is the city mentioned in Genesis where Abraham’s father, Terach, decided to settle after originally setting out to lead his large family from the city of Ur to Canaan.
