Golda Meir, the fourth prime minister of Israel and a native of Kyiv whose family fled amid antisemitic violence, has loomed large ever since Russia launched its war on Ukraine late last month.

Edinburgh City Council is to formally discuss a petition calling for it to be twinned with Gaza City – which has been submitted by an activist expelled from a trade union over claims of antisemitism.

The Twinning Edinburgh with Gaza Petition will be discussed by the council as part of the agenda for Policy and Sustainability Committee next Tuesday morning, 29 March.

(March 22, 2022 / JNS) The Israeli Air Force will join eight other air forces for an extensive annual air drill in the coming days held in Greece, according to a report by Greek Reporter on Monday.

The drill, which will begin March 28 and last until April 8, will see the IAF join the U.S. Air Force, as well as Hellenic [Greek], Canadian, Italian, Cypriot, Slovenian and Austrian air forces.

(March 16, 2022 / JNS) One of America’s most powerful Christian supporters of Israel sees clear similarities between Iran’s race towards nuclear weapons and a daring Israeli strike on an Iraqi nuclear reactor back in 1981.

In a wide-ranging interview, Pastor John Hagee, founder and chairman of Christians United for Israel (CUFI) and his own John Hagee Ministries, told JNS that “there’s an exact parallel. If anything, the parallel today is even more dangerous.”

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Tuesday during a news conference in Moscow with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov that nothing can negatively impact talks in Vienna on reviving Iran's 2015 nuclear deal.

"The interruption of talks can pave the way for the resolution of issues and the return of all parties to their nuclear deal commitments," Amirabdollahian said.

(JTA) — Amnesty International is set to become the latest human rights organization to describe Israel’s activities in relation to Palestinians as “apartheid” when it releases a special report on Tuesday, prompting a strong rebuke from major U.S. Jewish groups that argue the report could “inflame existing tensions and incite violence.”

The report was leaked to NGO Monitor, an Israeli watchdog, which published an extensive critical analysis online on Monday.

According to a page posted online before the release by NGO Monitor, the Amnesty report appears to extend the apartheid designation to Israel’s treatment of its Arab citizens, particularly during clashes inside Israel last May sparked by Israel’s conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
