When a Russian plane arrived in Iran with €140m in cash and a booty of captured western weapons, an exchange for Iranian drones, it marked a new phase in a seven-year alliance between two unlikely bedfellows.

(November 6, 2022 / JNS) Mansour Abbas, the leader of Israel’s Islamist Ra’am Party, has expressed concern that the country’s incoming coalition will change the status quo arrangement on the Temple Mount, a move he said would lead to violence.

In an interview with Channel 12 on Thursday, Abbas said he was “worried” that opposition head Benjamin Netanyahu’s prospective coalition, expected to consist of his Likud Party, the Religious Zionism Party, Shas and United Torah Judaism, would move to allow Jewish prayer on the Mount.

(November 2, 2022 / JNS) After the Arab League’s first summit meeting in three years, the leaders assembled in Algiers declared on Wednesday that the Palestinian cause remains their top priority.

Still, they omitted to mention their own divisions over possible peace agreements with Israel or the right-wing’s victory in this week’s election there.

(November 1, 2022 / JNS) Exit polls showed Israeli opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc garnering a parliamentary majority in Tuesday’s national election.

According to the polls on all three major channels, Netanyahu would be able to form a 61-seat or 62-seat right-wing/religious coalition.

“This is a good beginning,” the former prime minister said shortly after the results were revealed. “We expect the numbers to increase. We will wait for the final results.”

Saudi Arabia recently warned the US of an imminent attack by Iran on targets in the kingdom and in Erbil, Iraq, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

The US military and other militaries in the Middle East have raised their alert level in response to the warnings, according to the report.

As the final thousands of votes were being tallied Thursday evening, Prime Minister Yair Lapid called opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu to concede the race and congratulate him on his election victory.

“The State of Israel is above any political considerations,” Lapid said in a statement. “I wish Netanyahu good luck for the people of Israel and the State of Israel.”
