EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The killing of Qassem Soleimani could prove to be a turning point in the history of the Middle East as a whole, but first and foremost in Iraq. That country has been contending for months with a popular uprising that has produced chaos and turned it into an arena for a titanic battle between Iran and the US.
The Iraqi uprising erupted on October 1, 2019. Several months earlier, an Iraqi journalist published a scathing article under the headline, “Is Iraq Now a Leaf Blowing in the Wind?”

Francia envía su portaaviones Charles de Gaulle a Oriente Medio

El portaaviones nuclear de Francia Charles de Gaulle está siendo asignado con un rol de apoyo en el Medio Oriente para respaldar las operaciones militares del país en la región, dijo el presidente Emmanuel Macron el jueves. Añadió que una fuerza de protección está siendo suministrada por elementos navales de Alemania, Bélgica, Holanda, España y Grecia.
“El portaaviones apoyará las operaciones de Chammal (en el Medio Oriente) de enero a abril de 2020 antes de desplegarse en el Océano Atlántico y el Mar del Norte”, dijo Macron en un discurso de Año Nuevo a los militares franceses, según informó Reuters y fue llevado por el servicio de cable de France 24.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The late Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said of Oman was the rare Arab leader who did not let prevailing anti-Israel trends sway him, and who refused to be drawn into the Arab-Israeli conflict. His successor would be wise to follow his lead rather than cozy up to Iran and open his country to the predations that befell Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq as a result of Iranian interference.
Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said sadly passed away on January 10, 2020. He was 79, childless, and considered to be the longest-ruling Arab leader in modern history.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The killing of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani is being celebrated across the Arab world by Muslims who were cruelly victimized by him in the service of Iran’s imperialist ambitions. The Palestinians’ fulsome praise for Soleimani and accompanying support for Iran are raising eyebrows across the Arab world.
The attack on the US embassy in Baghdad was the latest in an ongoing series of Iranian provocations in the region. An American drone was shot down in the Persian Gulf in October, and there have been attacks on Saudi oil fields and oil tankers near Oman.

Jordan Is Palestinian
Thus far the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has weathered the storm that has swept across the Middle East since the beginning of the year. But the relative calm in Amman is an illusion.
The unspoken truth is that the Palestinians, the country's largest ethnic group, have developed a profound hatred of the regime and view the Hashemites as occupiers of eastern Palestine—intruders rather than legitimate rulers. This, in turn, makes a regime change in Jordan more likely than ever. Such a change, however, would not only be confined to the toppling of yet another Arab despot but would also open the door to the only viable peace solution—and one that has effectively existed for quite some time: a Palestinian state in Jordan.

By leaping to condemn Mike Pompeo’s factual statement that Israeli West Bank “settlements” do not violate international law, American Jewish leftists joined forces with the BDS movement, which views the entirety of Israel as “occupied.”
Like clockwork, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent observation that “the establishment of Israeli civilian settlements in the West Bank is not, per se, inconsistent with international law” was immediately denounced by the Jewish Left.

The January 3 killing by the U.S. of Iranian Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani has prompted responses from white supremacist groups and individuals who regularly comment on global issues, says MEMRI, the Middle East Media Research Institute.
“There have been two main types of response: mourning for an anti-U.S. and anti-Zionist figure, and support for or indifference to his killing,” says the institute.
