Accusations regarding the former American president’s alleged hostility toward Israel reemerged in recent comments by both Israel’s outgoing ambassador to the UN and legal expert Alan Dershowitz.

Danny Danon recently commented on the highlights and low points of his time as Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations (UN), an international body with a lengthy history of antipathy toward the Jewish state.
According to a JNS report this week, Danon identified the “lowest moment in the last five years” at the UN as “the moment the U.S. decided to abandon Israel” at Security Council during the Obama administration.
Danon’s comments referred to an episode that occurred immediately prior to former President Barack Obama’s exit from office when the U.S. abstained from speaking out against Resolution 2334, which vilified Israel for maintaining Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and even portions of Jerusalem, Israel’s capital.
The U.S. had previously blocked similar attempts to pursue Israel and its refusal to do so on this occasion was identified as the factor that led to the resolution’s passage. Biased actions such as this by the UN play a major role in the legal sleight of hand used by anti-Israel activists to promote the myth that Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria are “illegal.”
JNS further reported that Danon believes the Obama administration actively lobbied in the background to push Resolution 2334, which vilified Israel for Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and even portions of Jerusalem, Israel’s capital.
Danon’s comments echo recent statements by attorney Alan Dershowitz, an expert in international law and Harvard professor who said in June, “President Barack Obama committed a personal act of revenge against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, whom he despised, when he pushed the UN Security Council Resolution 2334 in an effort to tie the hands of the incoming U.S. president,” Arutz 7 reported.
Dershowitz made the remark during an online discussion on Israel’s plan to extend sovereignty over Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.
