I absolutely love archaeology! I can’t believe they’ve found 3,000-year-old vessels! This is amazing! These vessels tell the tale of a very fascinating story in the Bible.
3,000-Year-Old Vessels
These vessels date back to 3,000 years ago, during the time of King David. Archaeologists found these vessels in what they believe this is the city of Ziklag. It is in this city that David sought refuge when running from King Saul.
Thie city is mentioned in the Bible, Samuel 1 Chapter 27: 5-6. “And David said unto Achish: ‘If now I have found favor in thine eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there; for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?’ Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day; wherefore Ziklag belongeth unto the kings of Judah unto this day”
Furthermore, to the vessels that were found. Archaeologists found big stoned structured which they believe to be homes from back in the time of King David. They still continue to dig to try and find more artifacts.
Where To Dig?
One of the biggest questions for archaeologists is how do they know where to look? Well, the archaeologists first look at the Bible and see if it gives any indication of where the city might be. In this case, it mentions that Achish was king of Gat. So excavations began around the Israeli city called Kiryat Gat. They also learned from the Bible, that the city was not in the lowlands but not on the highlands either. So excavations began in this area in 2015 and finally, in 2019 they have found proof! these vessels.
Finally, there are so many cool archaeological sites coming up all over Israel. A lot of these sites are from all different time periods. They are all worth a visit on your next trip here.
